Welcome to Take Interest!

We're a husband-and-wife team based outside Seattle, and we build apps that respect your privacy. We started this company to create tools that are quiet, fast, and private. Software that respects your focus and your data.

Our philosophy is simple: privacy is a prerequisite, not a feature.

Plain-Language Commitment

Our free apps work completely offline by default with zero data collection (unless you explicitly enable diagnostics). Your personal content is yours, and it stays on your device. The only information we ever handle is what you choose to share with us directly, like your email address for our community list, a file for a support request, or optional diagnostics to help us improve. That's our promise.

Our Architectural Promise: Offline-First by Design

Our apps are built with an offline-first architecture—a technical choice that reflects our core belief that your data belongs to you. The most sensitive information—the personal content you create, the ideas you explore, the plans you make—is processed and stored directly on your device.

We have no access to it. This isn't marketing; it's how our software is engineered from the ground up. The free versions of our apps work completely offline by default with zero data collection.

For optional features that require syncing your on-device data between your devices, we use platform-native services like Apple's iCloud or Google Drive. We do not store your personal content on our servers, and access is governed by your platform provider and your account settings.

Optional Premium Features & Third-Party Connections

Our paid subscriptions unlock powerful online features. These are entirely optional and require your explicit consent. If you choose not to use these premium features, our core promise remains: our apps will continue to work completely offline with zero data collection.

These optional connections may include:

  • AI Assistants (e.g., OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google Gemini)
  • Calendar Services (e.g., Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook)
  • Commerce Partners (e.g., Instacart, grocery services)

If you subscribe and choose to enable a third-party connection, it is critical that you understand the following:

  • Explicit, Opt-In Consent: You must take a clear, affirmative action to connect each third-party service. We will ask for your consent on a service-by-service basis.
  • Data Transmission: When you use a feature powered by a third-party connection, the content you provide will be securely transmitted from your device to that third party's servers for processing.
  • Third-Party Governance: Once your data is transmitted, it is processed by the third party and is subject to their privacy policy and terms of service. We do not control how they use your data and strongly encourage you to read their policies carefully.
  • Third-Party Deletion: We cannot delete data held by a third-party provider on your behalf. To delete or export that data, please contact the provider directly. We’ll help by pointing you to the correct process.
  • Our Limited Role: We act only as a secure conduit to facilitate this connection at your request. We do not store, analyze, or retain any copies of the content you transmit through these connections.

You can disconnect any third-party service at any time from within our app's settings.

Information We Handle

1. Information We Do NOT Collect from Our Apps by Default

We do not collect, store, or have access to any data from within our apps by default, including:

  • Your personal content (notes, documents, plans, media, etc.).
  • Your location data, photos, contacts, or calendar.
  • Your browsing history or activity outside our apps.
  • Unique advertising identifiers for tracking.

2. Information You Voluntarily Provide

  • Email Addresses (Optional): We collect your email address only if you choose to join our community email list. We use it to send product updates and early access invitations. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Support Data (User-Initiated Only): If you contact us for support and choose to send us files, screenshots, or logs, we access only what you explicitly provide. We use this data only to resolve your specific issue and delete all support-related files within 90 days of case closure.

3. Optional Diagnostics Data (Opt-In)

To help us find and fix bugs and improve our apps, you can choose to enable diagnostics in Settings. This is turned off by default. If you opt-in, we collect de-identified technical information, including:

  • Crash Data: Crash reports and error logs to identify and fix bugs.
  • Performance Data: App launch time, memory usage, and battery impact to optimize performance.
  • Usage Data: Aggregated information about which features are accessed and frequency of use to understand what's most valuable.
  • Device and OS Data: Device model, OS version, and language settings to ensure compatibility.

Before any diagnostics data leaves your device, we strip all direct identifiers, use rotating session identifiers that cannot be linked to you personally, and apply other de-identification techniques. This data is not linked to your account or identity and cannot reasonably be used to identify you. We use a third-party service with PII-stripping enabled, to analyze this data. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, which will immediately stop all future data collection.

4. Premium Subscription Data

  • Payment Processing: All payment transactions are handled securely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not directly collect or store your credit card information.
  • Subscription Status: We may store the minimum information needed to verify your subscription status (such as an anonymous subscription ID and expiration date) on our servers. This data is not linked to your personal identity.

5. On-Device Personalization

Some of our app features use on-device machine learning to provide smart suggestions or an adaptive interface. Your preferences and patterns are processed locally on your device; no personal information or usage patterns are sent to our servers.

How We Share Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We also do not "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by California law. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We rely on essential third-party service providers to operate our Services. We use Webflow to host our website and Cloudflare for security and performance. To communicate with you via email, we use ConvertKit.
    • These providers support our website and email communications only. They are not used for in-app content or on-device personalization.
    • For our application, we may ask for your consent to send anonymous error and diagnostics reports to help us fix bugs. This data is fully anonymized before it is sent.
    • Our promise is to only use trusted partners essential for our operations. Their use of data is governed by their own privacy policies, and we do not use the data they collect to personally track you.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process.
  • Business Transfers: If Take Interest is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred. Where we have contact details, we will notify you and provide a chance to delete your information before the transfer when feasible, or promptly after. This privacy policy will continue to apply until any new policy is communicated with advance notice.

Your Rights and Choices

You are in control of your information. You have the right to access, correct, request the deletion of, and receive a portable copy of your personal information.

  • Response Timeline: We will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and complete it within 45 days.If more time is needed for a complex request, we may extend by up to 45 additional days and will notify you of the reason.
  • How to Exercise Your Rights: To exercise any of these rights, please email us at privacy@takeinterest.ai. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
  • Deletion of Backups: When we delete your information, we also instruct our service providers to delete it and purge related backups within 90 days.

Data Security, Tracking & SDKs

We implement security measures to protect the limited information we handle, including:

  • TLS 1.3 encryption for all data transmission.
  • AES-256 encryption for any data we store (like email addresses).
  • Strict access controls and least-privilege principles for any data you send us for support.

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. These measures apply to data transmitted through our apps and website; email transmission security also depends on your email provider.

Tracking & SDKs: We do not use third-party SDKs in our apps that pool our app data with data from other companies’ apps for advertising or measurement. Because we do not engage in "tracking" as defined by Apple, we do not request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission.

International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States, and the limited data we handle is stored and processed in the U.S. For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or Switzerland, we use Standard Contractual Clauses where required for data transfers.

Children's Privacy

Our services are intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 without verifiable parental consent. In the United States, we also comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which provides additional protections for children under 13. If we learn we have collected such data, we will delete it promptly.

Data Retention

We retain different types of data only for as long as necessary:

  • Email Addresses: Retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
  • Optional Diagnostics Data: Retained for a maximum of 90 days from the date of collection.
  • Support Files: Retained for a maximum of 90 days after case closure.
  • Subscription Status Data: Retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days for accounting purposes.

Data Breach Notification

In the event of a security breach that affects personal information we handle (for example, our email list), we will notify you via email without undue delay after confirming the breach, providing information about what happened and the steps you can take.

Changes to This Policy

For any material changes to this policy, we will provide active notice by emailing our community list and displaying a prominent in-app notice at least 15 days before the changes take effect. We will never retroactively apply material changes to data we previously collected without your explicit opt-in consent.
